As the name suggests Poising ivy burns occur when you come in contact with the poison ivy plant intimately. The plant oozes oil called Urushiol and it adheres to the skin causing burns. This ailment is also called Rhus dermatitis and poison burns. This oil causes allergies to most people who come in close contact with it. The allergy would appear in the form of red rashes which scratches and you would scratch all over your body into mental and nervous wreck. This disease is also known as Toxicodendron dermatitis. The symptoms do not show immediately; it usually takes a day or two to materialize. One thing should be kept in mind however, and that is scratching would aggravate the situation. Nonetheless, it becomes imperative to scratch at times.

There are certain herbal treatments for soothing the irritation caused by poison ivy burns. Mint leaf oil has a propensity to soothe the skin and so it is a very effective herbal treatment for this ailment. The oil should be gently massaged to the burns to get a soothing effect. Aloe Vera and turmeric are also very effective in treating Toxicodendron dermatitis. A paste should be prepared of Aloe Vera leaves and applied to the burns. It would cease the burning sensation and stop itching to immediate effect. About 300 Gms of turmeric powder should be boiled and given to the patient thrice daily (2tsps). The symptoms of Toxicodendron dermatitis are resolved in a day.
