Teething is that phase of life in an infant life when the gums which are devoid of teeth; break open to let teeth grow. Usually an infant goes through this at the age of 6 months. The age factor may vary from baby to baby; however, sore gums are a part of teething. Infact, the other name for teething is sore gums. The upper two teeth are the first ones to sprout usually and then the middle teeth. The mother feels the agony of the baby; as the baby can only howl to vent its feelings. Diarrhea and dysentery are the foremost symptoms of teething. Fever is a result of all this.

Brandy and whiskey are potent herbal and natural treatments for teething (no beer and wine). You would need to massage the gums of the baby with these. However, make certain that the baby does not swallow the alcohol; otherwise you would have a drunken baby in your arms. However, eventually the baby would go to sleep. Repeat this treatment if necessary. Clove oil is also very effective as an herbal treatment for teething. Soak a cotton swab in clove oil and massage the baby’s gums with it. The child would scream as the application of clove oil would make the gums smart; however, the treatment would prove worth the while.
