When lids of the eyes tend to get inflamed due to infection the condition is known, as Blepharitis and the causative agent could be seborrheic dermatitis, which is the name of a bacteria. Lice infestation could also lead to blepharitis. The noticeable symptom is the discharge of oil near the eyelids. The unrequired production of oil in such a tender part of the human anatomy gives rise to the thriving of bacteria. At times the eyes become red and the blinking of the eyelid may give a feeling as if sand has got into the eye. Styes (chalazia) may also trigger blephritis. However, there is an herbal treatment for this disease. In common language this disease is called inflammation of the eyelids.
Apart from its fragrance the Jasmine flower is also known for its medicinal properties. The fresh petals of jasmine flower (60 Gms) should be boiled in 600 ml of water for 15 mins. The eyelids should be washed thrice daily with the cooled and strained filtrate and the symptoms of blepharitis would be resolved in two weeks. As an alternative one should wash the eyelids regularly with mineral water and the symptoms would be resolved in a fortnight. These handy treatments have stood in good stead to many worldwide.
