When an unnecessary bone grows on an already existing bone; it is termed as bone spur. Jargon wise it is known as osteophytes. On most occasions it occurs on the joints. Bone spur in itself is not painful; however, if it rubs against the adjoining bone or a nerve then the pain can be excruciating. It is rampant in people above the age of 60 and it leads to spine degeneration. This ailment is a crippling one and can be fatal also. The first thing to do is to reduce the swelling. Cold compress is very essential atleast three to four times daily. This is the easiest possible home remedy for bone spur treatment. If the problem is severe then heat compress would help as another home remedy. Curcumin, which is the yellow pigment of turmeric and flaxseed are also recommended as a home remedy to treat bone spur. One more home remedy is very effective to treat bone spur and that to dip a piece of cheese cloth in warm linseed oil. You would need a heating pad as the compress would last for two minimal hours.
