This ailment is a fungal infection concerning the epidermis of human foot. Athletes’ foot concerns the disease and not the fungal infection. It is mainly caused by a form of yeast that lives on the outer surface of the skin and then penetrates deeper. It usually happens to the male gender and in between toes. However, in extreme cases it may spread to the heel of the foot also.

The herb to treat athlete’s foot is native to America; however, it grows prolifically elsewhere also. The herb by the common name of Golden seal; however, its botanical name is Hydrasis canadensis. This herb belongs to the Peony family. It is the root of the herb which is an herbal remedy and they have been used by ancient Americans from time immemorial. A chemical named berberine; which is present in the roots of the herb has the capability to ward off infections caused by fungi and yeast. However, it also acts as a mild sedative. This could deter many; however, if the treatment is taken before bedtime then won’t be much of a problem. Berberine is said to be more efficacious than Aspirin to reduce a fever. This root can be used either as a capsule, powder, tincture or an ointment. Either way it is effective. In other words it is effective if taken orally as well as if it is directly applied on the affected area. Herbal pharmacists would keep both the versions of the medication. However, the most important aspect of the treatment is that it is easily procurable and cost effective too.
