Tinea Versicolor is a fungal infection of the skin and is also known as Pityriasis Versicolor. It occurs due to the overgrowth of yeast known as Malassezia furfur. The normal pigmentation of the texture of the skin suffers as an aftermath of this. The topography of the place is responsible for this fungal infection and humidity is the main cause of it. Not many people suffer from this ailment; say half a dozen or so out of every 100 individuals. This disease appears in spots and prevents that section of the skin from tanning and leaving the rest of the skin vulnerable to the ultra violet rays of the sun. It is a repulsive sight and needs medical attention and there is no better way to treat this ailment other than herbal treatment.

Margosa; know in the Indian vernacular as neem is a very potent herbal treatment for Tinea Versicolor. The juice of freshly plucked leaves needs to be applied to the area affected and the symptoms of Tinea Versicolor would fade away in a week. Wild olive roots are also a very effective herbal treatment for Tinea Versicolor. You would need to squeeze out the juice of 150Gms of the roots of this herb and make a paste with water. This needs to be applied to that part of the skin which is affected. Two weeks of this application would suffice in removing the visible symptoms of Tinea Versicolor.

The herb by the common name of Golden seal; however, its botanical name is Hydrasis canadensis. This herb belongs to the Peony family. It is the root of the herb which is an herbal remedy and they have been used by ancient Americans from time immemorial. A chemical named berberine; which is present in the roots of the herb has the capability to ward off infections caused by fungi and yeast. However, it also acts as a mild sedative. This could deter many; however, if the treatment is taken before bedtime then won’t be much of a problem. Berberine is said to be more efficacious than Aspirin to reduce a fever. This root can be used either as a capsule, powder, tincture or an ointment. Either way it is effective. In other words it is effective if taken orally as well as if it is directly applied on the affected area. Herbal pharmacists would keep both the versions of the medication. However, the most important aspect of the treatment is that it is easily procurable and cost effective too.

Ringworm happens to be one of the most common skin disorders. It is a fungal infection and is not dangerous to that extent; however, it is very irritating. This is so because it appears in the visible part of the body and one look repulsive. A very successful home remedy for getting rid of ringworm patches is the application of mustard seed paste to the affected area. Regular application of this would soothe the skin and help in making the ringworm patch to diminish. Another home remedy for the removal of ringworm patches is the application of Basil leaf juice. The procedure is the same as mustard seed application.
