Tinea Capitis; better known as ring worm of the scalp is a fungal infection. It affects the hairy portions of the body; chiefly the eyelashes, eyebrows and the scalp. The fungi which causes this infection goes by the name of dermatophytes. This ailment is more prevalent in children. It is contagious; however, disappears as puberty approaches. Symptoms could be “Round, scaly lesions on the scalp” the itching of the scalp could be mediocre, however, the effected region may loose hair. The lesions that appear could be dry or with a wet exterior (pus). Chemical anti-biotech’s work however, mot without side affects. So, it is safer to go in for herbal treatment.

Corkwood or Euodia Elleryana is a very effective herbal treatment for Tinea Capitis. A powder should be prepared of the leaves and stem of corkwood and boiled in water for 15 mins. Drink this tea four times daily; the antibacterial propensities of the leaves and stem would resolve the situation in a week. Improper personal hygiene is also considered to be a major cause in giving impetus to the growth of the fungi. So, it must be made certain by the parents of children that they have a proper bath everyday.
