When there is a calcified deposition on the enamel it is termed as caculus. Dental plaque is the main cause for this. Calculus has a propensity to absorb stains. Bad oral hygiene is the most common cause of calculus. It affects the Gingiva also. Once caculus is formed it is difficult to get rid of it. Teeth coloring is not the answer as it is temporary.

Camellia sinensis; is very affective in caculus; incidentally it an evergreen shrub. Green tea and oolong tea also come from this plant. However, black tea is useful in calculus. If the powdered form of black tea is used for the brushing of teeth it would help in removing the stains caused by plaque formation. As a further home remedy for calculus vinegar and salt can be used. Mix both in an appropriate manner and brush your teeth with it. However, it would need to be done in a regular way; if you do not want to go to a dentist. Smoking and the chewing of tobacco are the main causes of calculus. However, at times prolonged illness is also responsible for caculus. In such an event the coloring of the teeth is the only way out.
