Hyperthyroidism is also known as basedow disease. This disease concerns the endocrine organ of the body; particularly the thyroid. This disease is caused due to the malfunctioning of secretions by this gland. That is why it is also known as Grave’s disease. The condition is popularly called Hyperthyroidism. There is a disturbance in the body metabolism as an aftermath of this disease and women are more prone to it than men. This disease is becoming rampant these days. The obvious signs are “obesity, tiredness, petulance, profuse sweating, and inability to adapt to climatic variations”. However, every ailment has an herbal treatment and so does Hyperthyroidism.
Bugleweed is a known herbal treatment for Hyperthyroidism. It has propensities which balance the secretion of the gland. Just add one and a half grams of bugleweed to a hot cup of tea and drink it thrice daily after straining. Lemon balm also aids in balancing the secretions of the thyroid glands. Two teaspoons of dried lemon balm should be put into a hot cup of tea and drunk thrice daily. One month would suffice to resolve the symptoms of Hyperthyroidism. Black pepper is also a known cure for Hyperthyroidism. One should make it a habit to add black pepper to taste in ones staple diet.

The secretions of the thyroid glands have two basic functions. The enhancement of protein synthesis and the proper using of oxygen are done by these secretions. They in turn play a direct role in influencing the basal metabolic rate or (BMR). Iodine is the main secretion; by the pituitary glands, incidentally and biologically it is a part of the thyroid glands. They are transformed by the glands into thyroid hormones. This vital gland also secretes calcitonin and regulates the calcium in the body. However, a malfunctioning of the gland can create problems; a problem which is visible to the onlooker.
However, there are certain herbs which can be used as an herbal treatment for thyroid gland problems. These herbs are pinellia, sinapis, chenpi, juhong, fritillaria (zhebeimu) and bupleurum. All these herbs are of Chinese origin. They are not prevalent in the western world; however, they have proven their worth in treating thyroid problems. The other crucial herbs for the rectifying of thyroid glands are Edoaria and the other being sparganium. Incidentally they are also of Chinese origin. A problem in the thyroid glands is not life threatening; however, it can cause a lot of discomfort. A small mole can become an ant hill; if the thyroid glands are not functioning properly.

When there is an enlargement in the thyroid glands; then a person is said to have Goitre. The position of the gland is such a place that it is visible from quite a distance. This is because it is situated just below the Adams apple. This ailment is also called ‘Derbyshire neck’ and the basic cause for this ailment is the deficiency of iodine in the body. It has been observed that women are affected more by this disease than men. Moreover, this ailment is inflammatory; so it quite embarrassing for a woman. However, the disease is not cancerous. So, all you ladies there do not get alarmed if you happen to have Goitre.
Nonetheless, there are some side effect free herbal and natural cures for treating Goitre. A gentle massage of Luke warm coconut oil is very beneficial for a Goitre patient. There are other herbs which are also considered very beneficial for Goitre patients. Some of them are Jatamansi, Brahmi, Guggulu and Punarnava. All the aforementioned treatments are of Eastern origin and they have proven their worth over many thousands of years. These herbs should be ground and dried preferably. Then they should be applied to the Goitre as a paste or imbibed with Luke warm milk. The many patients who have benefited from the treatment of these herbs would vouch for their efficacy. Goitre is not painful; however, it is very embarrassing. This being the case it is very repulsive to the onlooker. Women would be ignored by the opposite gender.
